Overview

Benadryl is marketed as antihistamine for allergy relief. It relieves symptoms related to hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies including runny nose, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat and symptoms of common cold including sneezing and runny nose.

It is also used to relieve body itching caused by an allergy.

They are available as caplets, capsules and tablets in this strength.

Dosage

  • Ages 12 years and over – Take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours or as directed by your doctor.
  • Ages 6 to 11 years – Take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours or as directed by your doctor.
  • Under 6 years – DO NOT USE.

Do not take more than 6 times in 24 hours

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Do not use with any other product containing diphenhydramine, even one used on skin
  • Do not use to cause drowsiness in children
  • Ask a doctor before use if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate gland or chronic breathing problems like emphysema or chronic bronchitis.
  • Ask a doctor if you are taking sedating medication
  • Causes drowsiness
  • Avoid alcohol due to increased sedation
  • Taking with sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness
  • Be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery
  • Excitability may occur, especially in children
